In the Province of B.C., Local Government Elections are held every three years on the third Saturday of November. The next scheduled General Local Government Elections are set for Saturday November 19th, 2011. Local governments include the Regional District, School District and Municipalities.
The Regional District of North Okanagan includes 5 Electoral Areas and elections for Directors to represent the electoral areas occur every three (3) years as part of the General Local Election system in British Columbia Directors may be elected by acclamation (in the case of a single qualified candidate) or by voting (where there is more than one qualified candidate).
The 6 Municipal partners in the Regional District of North Okanagan which include the City of Armstrong, District of Coldstream, City of Enderby, Village of Lumby, Township of Spallumcheen, and the City of Vernon appoint representatives to the Regional Board from those people elected to their individual councils.
From time to time the Regional Board may determine a Referendum or Opinion Poll should be held. If so, information will be posted on the Referendum/Opinion Poll page.
The Regional Board may also determine that the Alternative Approval Process be used to gain the approval of electors on a specific matter.
