Learn How to be FireSmart and WaterWise at Workshop

Posted Wednesday, August 7, 2019

The Regional District of North Okanagan is partnering with the Allan Brooks Nature Centre (ABNC) to present the latest workshop in the ABNC summer series, on FireSmart and WaterWise yard care. The workshop takes place at the Nature Centre (250 Allan Brooks Way) on August 15, at 6:30pm.

This workshop will cover the B.C. FireSmart recommendations for choosing where to plant and how to maintain your yard, while being conscious of selecting WaterWise plants that are well suited to our dry Okanagan climate. A WaterWise irrigation expert from Waterkind Consulting will provide tips on irrigation to keep your yard looking good without using a lot of water.
“Come join us at the Nature Centre and enjoy a summer evening overlooking a fabulous view while getting some great yard care tips,” says Jennifer Miles, Water Sustainability Coordinator with the Regional District. “Late summer is a great time to start planning yard upgrades for the fall, as planting new trees and shrubs or laying WaterWise turf is best done during cooler temperatures”.
