Soil is Focus of Last Garden Workshop

Posted Tuesday, September 9, 2014

Fall is quickly approaching and the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) would like to invite residents to the final free Xerindipity Garden workshop of 2014. This Wednesday, September 10th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., join RDNO staff and guest speaker, Agrologist Ruth McDougall for a free workshop about local soil.
This one hour workshop will explore the basics of soil structure and type, and how soil fertility determines plant viability. “While soil does not often get the attention it deserves, most gardeners understand the importance of starting with a good foundation for the enhanced health of their plants,” explains RDNO Waste Reduction Coordinator, Karmen Morgan.

For those unable to make the workshop, feel free to visit the Xerindipity Demonstration Garden located next to the Okanagan Science Centre in Polson Park in Vernon. Xerindipity is open during regular Polson Park hours, seven days a week, May through October. Come down and enjoy the shade of the gazebo, view the educational signage on display, and gain ideas for outdoor planting.

Registration is not required to attend the workshop, but seating is limited around the gazebo.
