Master Water Plan Stakeholder Advisory Committee – Call for Volunteers

Posted Thursday, July 23, 2015

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) Board of Directors is inviting Greater Vernon Water (GVW) customers to participate in a stakeholder review of the 2012 Master Water Plan (MWP) through the Greater Vernon Water 2012 Master Water Plan Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC). The SAC will play an important role in reviewing the current 2012 GVW MWP and making recommendations to the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee (GVAC) on the community’s perspective for moving forward. In November 2014, a referendum to finance projects outlined in the MWP was defeated and, as a result, the Regional Board is seeking the community’s input into the direction, through the SAC, to review the MWP and make recommendations to the GVAC on the community’s priorities for managing their water while also meeting regulatory requirements.

The SAC will consist of 14 people, all of whom will be selected by the GVAC through an application process that will allow a diverse cross-section of the GVW service area to participate. To ensure a transparent process, criteria has been developed and is provided in the SAC Terms of Reference (ToR) to select committee members. Applicants must be a GVW customer and own property within the GVW service area. The GVAC will be seeking to fill the following representation on the SAC:

  • One (1) representative from GVAC will act as Chair of the SAC meetings;
  • Two (2) persons from the agricultural sector;
  • Two (2) persons from commercial, industrial, institutional and other non-domestic users;
  • Two (2) persons from non-domestic that provide service to sensitive customers (i.e. hospital);
  • One (1) person from major industrial;
  • Four (4) persons from the residential sector;
  • One (1) person from the developer class; and
  • One (1) representative from a local service group.

SAC members will be required to attend monthly meetings over a six month period; starting date will be the first meeting which is anticipated to be in September 2015.

The SAC application form, including the ToR, are available at www.rdno.ca/water. Copies are also available at the RDNO office at 9848 Aberdeen Road, Coldstream. The RDNO will continue regular media updates to inform the public about the stakeholder review process. Those wishing to participate but unable to commit to participation on the committee may submit questions and comments to [email protected].
