Regional Transit Services

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) funds two transit services in the North Okanagan: the Regional Service (to/from Enderby and Lumby) and the UBCO Connector Service (to/from University of British Columbia in Kelowna).  These services are funded by the communities of the North Okanagan based primarily on ridership. Decisions about fares, routes and service levels are made by the service partners, based on information and planning provided by BC Transit.

Whereas the UBCO Connector and Regional transit services provide conventional and “Community Bus” services, a custom door-to-door handyDART service is also available in Electoral Areas B and C through a grant to the City of Vernon.

New Unified Transit Fares and Passes for 2018

New fare structure effective April 1, 2018.

The City of Vernon, the District of Coldstream, and the Regional District of North Okanagan have jointly approved changes to transit fares to coincide with the planned service expansions in spring 2018. The simplified fare structure will be easier to use and less costly to administer. The existing single zone and multi-zone fares will be unified into one, reducing the number of fare products from 14 to five (5).

There will be one cash fare of $2.50 for all transit services, including handyDART, with one exception being the Route 90 - UBCO which will be $5.00 due to the distance between Vernon and Kelowna. Transit users with monthly passes, including U-Passes, will be able to ride the Route 90 - UBCO at no additional cost.

Fare reviews are conducted periodically to ensure that fares keep up with the cost to provide transit services. Vernon Regional Transit fares were last reviewed in 2004 and handyDART fares were last reviewed in 1996.
