Regional Solid Waste Management Plan Monitoring Working Group


The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) invites applications from persons interested in participating on the RDNO’s Regional Solid Waste Management Plan Monitoring Working Group (PMWG). Members of the PMWG will be appointed for an initial two (2) year term anticipated to commence in March 2020. It is anticipated that meetings will be conducted at most every three (3) months, or at the call of the Chair. The location of the meetings will be at the RDNO office at Highway 6 and Aberdeen Road in Coldstream. The PMWG will conclude its work when the Solid Waste Management Plan (the Plan) is being updated, expected to be in 2023.

The PMWG will act in an advisory capacity to the RDNO Board of Directors and will be tasked with reviewing annual reports and other documents pertaining to the Plan status and with providing feedback to staff and elected officials.

The RDNO is looking for members (at most 15) from the following sectors to do important monitoring and reporting work to help the RDNO achieve its new waste disposal target of 350 kg/capita/year (down from the current 500 kg/capita/year):

  • private industry
  • non-profit organizations
  • businesses
  • residents.

Members will represent a balance of community interests and act as advisors to the Board of Directors on the implementation of the Plan.

Tasks will include at least the following:

  • review information related to implementation of the Plan, including waste quantities, population, and diversion rates for each plan component
  • provide input on design and implementation of public surveys and consultation processes for new diversion programs and disposal facilities
  • assist in the review of current programs and identifying issues and opportunities.
