Sterile Insect Release Program

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) is one of four participating regional districts in the Sterile Insect Release (SIR) Program. The SIR Program is an area-wide, environmentally friendly approach to managing the codling moth, which is one of the BC tree fruit industry's most damaging and costly pests.  The SIR Program operates in the fruit growing areas of the Okanagan, Similkameen and Shuswap valleys, where the tree fruit industry plays an important role in the lives of residents and commercial growers.
