Swan Lake Area Plan

 

In spring of 2018, the Regional District initiated a review of the Electoral Areas “B” and “C” Official Community Plan to include a Commercial Area and Neighbourhood Plan for the Swan Lake area.  An Official Community Plan is a statement of objectives and policies that are intended to guide decisions on planning and land use matters.  As a result of this review and the public input received through public open houses held in April and June 2018 and the plan being posted on the RDNO website and e-mailed out to stakeholders for their review, Urban Systems (on behalf of the Regional District) has drafted the Electoral Areas "B" and “C” Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. 2795, 2018.  The Swan Lake Commercial Area and Neighbourhood Plan contains objectives and policies that address:
• Environmental Issues
• Agriculture
• Housing & Residential Land Use
• Commercial and Industrial Development
• Parks and Recreation
• Transportation
• Utilities – Water and Sewer Services

Each policy is unique to the Swan Lake Commercial Corridor and surrounding lands as they address local issues as well as work towards ensuring the sustainability of the area into the future.

A delegated Public Hearing on Bylaw No. 2795 will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Regional District Boardroom.


The Regional District of North Okanagan has retained Urban Systems Ltd. to undertake a land use planning process for the development of a Swan Lake Commercial Area and Neighbourhood Plan.  The plan will address land use topics such as future growth areas, housing density (secondary suites, carriage homes, residential sized lots), a possible community sewer system, water services, roads and recreational opportunities.
