Victims Assistance

With client consent, Victims Assistance can respond to incidents such as:

  • Arson
  • Assault
  • Breaking and Entering (Business or Residential)
  • Disasters
  • Family Disputes and/or Problems
  • Fraud
  • Harassment
  • Intimidation
  • Stalking
  • Homicide
  • Industrial Accident
  • Kidnapping and/or Abduction
  • Lost and/or Missing Person
  • Mischief
  • Motor Vehicle / Vessel / Aircraft Accident
  • Robbery
  • Spousal Assault
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Sudden Death
  • Suicide
  • Attempted Suicide
  • Theft
  • Threats
  • Witness to Crime/Traumatic Event

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) funds the delivery of the North Okanagan RCMP Victims Assistance Program in the North Okanagan as an extension of RCMP services.

The Victims Assistance Manager is responsible for program development and delivery, recruiting and training volunteers, liaising with the RCMP on program development, as well as community public relations.

Victims Assistance services include:

  • Emotional support, and information about reactions to trauma
  • Home security information or evaluation
  • Information about the progress of the police file, the criminal justice system, and case progress
  • Court orientation and court accompaniment
  • Information about crime scene clean-up and revictimization prevention
  • Assistance with Criminal Injury Compensation forms or Victim Impact Statements, where applicable
  • Referrals to other service programs, community agencies or professionals for additional support, counselling or other identified needs
  • Crisis intervention by trained workers 24 hours a day, accessed through the RCMP

Services are provided free of charge to persons in need, which may include primary victims, secondary victims, witnesses, surviving family members, or any other persons affected by the incident.
