Questions and Answers
What is an Official Community Plan (OCP):
An OCP is a document that outlines directions for the future of an area. The plan captures community values and a vision for the future. The OCP can include:
- identification of lands for residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, recreational, public utility (such as sewers, storm drains, roads, parks and water) and other land uses;
- policies to protect environmentally sensitive areas and promote environmentally sustainable development;
- economic development policies;
- social and cultural considerations such as affordability, quality of life, food security and heritage resources.
How long will this process take?
We are anticipating having a draft plan to review in the fall 2010. The draft document will be circulated for review and presented to the Board once the review process is complete.
What happens with the current plan?
The framework of the current plan will be considered and incorporated into the new plan. We want to know what is working well and we will hope to build upon these successes.
What area is covered by the plan?
A map of the plan area shows those portions of the Electoral Areas ‘D’ and ‘E’ that will be addressed in the plan.
Why are we reviewing the plan now?
The current plan was adopted in 2002 and since that time there have been sufficient population, land use and legislative changes to warrant an update of the plan.
Where do I get a copy of the current plan?
The current plan is available from the RDNO website (2.63MB PDF). Hard copies can be viewed at the RDNO offices and purchased for $10 + taxes.
