COLDSTREAM, BC - The Regional District of North Okanagan is pleased to
announce the Environmental Leadership Awards program and the Waste
Reduction Initiatives Fund.
Karmen Peace, Regional District of North Okanagan Waste Reduction
Coordinator states, "There are many individuals and groups in our community
doing very innovative things with respect to the environment. The Regional
District wants to recognize those people for their hard work and dedication and is
seeking the public's assistance to nominate environmental leaders in the
community."
The nomination categories for Environmental Leadership are: Air Quality
Improvement, Waste Reduction and Recycling, Community Clean Up, Invasive
Plants Control, Climate Action, Water Conservation and Water Stewardship.
Nominations will be accepted annually until Earth Day, April22. A maximum of
two recipients per category will be chosen for an award each year. individuals,
groups or organizations may be nominated under each of the award categories.
Nomination forms and additional details are available at the Regional District of
North Okanagan office or online at www.rdno.ca. This year's award winners will
be recognized during canadian Environment week, May 31st - June 6th, 2009.
The Waste Reduction Initiatives Fund will provide financial support for programs
initiated by local community groups and organizations that promote waste
reduction in the North Okanagan. Funding applications will be evaluated using a
specific list of criteria and funding will be provided accordingly. The deadline for
submissions is Wednesday, April 22,2009 and details of this program are also
available online at www.rdno.ca.
