COLDSTREAM, BC – Young artists throughout the North Okanagan were invited to submit their entries for the first annual Clean Air Day Poster Contest, sponsored by 105.7 Sun FM, the Regional District of North Okanagan and the City of Vernon.
The poster contest was open to students from any grade level and the following winners were chosen from these categories:
- Elementary Group One (K to 3): Lydia Jantz, Kindergarten, Ellison Elementary
- Elementary Group Two (4 to 6): Hannah Mehain, Grade 5, Hillview Elementary
- Middle (7 to 9): Angela Gmeinweser, Grade 9, Ecole Secondaire W.L. Seaton Secondary
The overall winning poster by Ms. Mehain was selected by random draw from the category winners. Ms. Mehain will receive the grand prize of a collectable pedal car from A & W, the Clean Air Day grand prize sponsor. Each category winner will also receive a gift certificate from Sun Country Cycle. The winning poster will be used throughout the North Okanagan to promote Clean Air Day on June 3, 2009 and the North Okanagan Commuter Challenge which runs from June 1 until June 5, 2009.
The Commuter Challenge is an annual friendly competition between cities across Canada to see which one can encourage the most people to choose healthy and environmentally friendly forms of transportation (transit, cycling, walking, carpooling, running, in-line skating, kayaking, canoeing and skateboarding).
