June 29, 2009
The Regional Growth Strategy establishes a common vision for how the North
Okanagan accommodates growth over the next 20 years. The strategy will provide
guidance on a variety of key growth issues that directly affect the quality of life for all
residents throughout the North Okanagan. Public input on the growth issues early in the
process will assist in the development of the Regional Growth Strategy.
Three Regional Growth Strategy public open house meetings were held on June 22 in
Vernon, June 23 in Enderby and June 25 in Lumby to give North Okanagan citizens the
opportunity to provide input on the eight key growth issues: economic development,
transportation and infrastructure, governance and service delivery, environment and
natural lands, agriculture and food systems, urban containment, water stewardship and
affordable housing. These open house meetings were held in different parts of the
region to encourage participation and input by all residents.
Interested residents that were unable to attend the open house meeting can provide
their input on a growth issues comment form that is available on the Regional Growth
Strategy website. Paper comment forms are available at the Enderby,
Lumby, Armstrong and Vernon Public Libraries, at the Regional District’s Aberdeen
Office and any municipal hall. Comment forms will be received until August 1st, 2009,
although the public is encouraged to provide input, comment and feedback throughout
the Regional Growth Strategy process. The open house display boards and
presentation are available at www.rdno.ca/rgs.
These open house meetings are one of several open house series for citizens to provide
input in the Regional Growth Strategy planning process. Small information sessions can
be arranged by request. Other input opportunities are outlined in the public participation
plan, which is available on the Regional Growth Strategy website: www.rdno.ca/rgs. For
more information about the Regional Growth Strategy or to request a paper copy of the
growth issues comment form, please contact Anthony Kittel, Regional Growth Strategy
Coordinator at (250) 550-3750 or e-mail: anthony.kittel@rdno.ca.
