COLDSTREAM, BC – Following the cancellation of the Air Quality Function of the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO), the RDNO will not be hosting the Free Burn Smart workshop scheduled for April 13, 2010. However, we would like to reiterate that the Wood Stove Change Out Program will continue through until April 30, 2010.
The Wood Stove Change Out Program gives North Okanagan consumers changing out their old technology wood stoves an opportunity to replace them with new EPA/CSA emission approved wood, gas, pellet or electric appliances. The first 75 change outs will be given a $250 cash rebate from the RDNO program. Selected retailers in the area are also giving purchase discounts of $150 off the suggested retail price depending on the make and model of the stove.
The goal of the Wood Stove Change Out Program is to encourage homeowners to trade in uncertified, dirty-burning wood stoves and replace them with new, EPA and CSA certified, clean burning appliances. Retailers have documentation that shows the emission ratings of all the new stoves. With today’s new technology, they can burn up to 90% cleaner than old, wood-heating appliances. The old stoves from the change out are then recycled, not resold.
More information on the Wood Stove Change Out Program can be obtained from these participating retailers: Applewood Heating and Air Conditioning, D and B Home Fires, Greenwood Energy Services, Home Building Centre, OK Builders Supply, Shepherd’s Home Hardware, and Vernon Stone Products.
The Wood Stove Change Out is a clean air program of the Central, North and Okanagan-Similkameen Regional Districts.
