COLDSTREAM, BC – The Xerindipity demonstration garden located next to the Okanagan Science Centre is home to a second, free workshop this spring. The heat will once again be upon us in the North Okanagan and for those that have planted a flower or vegetable garden, it can be challenging to keep plants going during the hot weather. The workshop, Water Wise Gardening is ideal for residents thinking about water efficiency and time saving techniques during the summer growing season. Renee Clark, Senior Water Quality Technologist for the Regional District of North Okanagan, adds, “We constantly hear from North Okanagan residents who are looking for ways to reduce their water consumption. There are many techniques and tools that can help put the resident back in control of their water use. We hope to provide some options such as automatic sprinkling and drip irrigation systems that can save both time and money, even in the hottest dog days of summer.”
The workshop will showcase irrigation products for homeowners to consider when planning the outdoor space. Attendees will learn ways to use water more efficiently outdoors for the benefit of the homeowner, the health of their plants, and the local environment. Renee Clark will also be available for questions about the Regional District’s Drought Management Plan and how residents can become informed and involved.
Come down to Xerindipity during regular Polson Park hours, seven days a week May through October to enjoy the shade of the gazebo and gain ideas for outdoor planting. “Now that the demonstration garden is nearing completion, garden workshops are ideally suited for the space”, says Regional District of North Okanagan Waste Reduction Coordinator Karmen Morgan. Join us in the gazebo at Xerindipity on Saturday, June 12th at 1:00 p.m. to learn how you can manage your garden’s water needs with ease!
Xerindipity is also one of the feature gardens for the People Place garden tour taking place on Saturday, June12th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For tour tickets, visit Art Knapp Plantland, Briteland, Rafter’s in Village Green Mall, Season’s Garden Gifts, Swan Lake Nursery or the People Place.
