COLDSTREAM, BC – The Regional District of North Okanagan - Greater Vernon Water (RDNO–GVW) announces immediate Stage One Water Restrictions for all customers on the RDNO-GVW system. Recent precipitation has significantly increased the flow of water into the utility’s upland reservoirs, Kalamalka Lake and Okanagan Lake. Increased precipitation has also reduced the water demand on our storage. Therefore, the Stage 2 restrictions have been relaxed to Stage 1 effective immediately.
Residential customers are permitted to water their lawn and gardens on odd or even, alternating days based on their house address. Odd numbered houses can water on odd numbered days of the week. Even numbered house can water on even numbered days of the week. Automatic (timer) sprinklers can water between 12 midnight to 6 am. Manual sprinklers can water between the hours of 6am and 10am and 7pm and 12 midnight. Gated communities, stratas and mobile home parks should water based on the unit number if they are on a separate sprinkler system.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Watering with watering cans, hand held hose with a spring loaded shut off nozzle, or drip / microjet irrigation systems is allowed any day between the hours of 6 am to 10 am and 7 pm to 12 midnight.
- Installing new high water use landscaping is discouraged and should be avoided during the hottest months to ensure survival of plants. However, owners of new landscaping can make application for an exemption.
- Cleaning driveways, sidewalks, or other impermeable outdoor surfaces is permitted only with a hose equipped with a spring loaded nozzle.
- Private pressure washing is permitted if done conservatively.
- Vehicle (cars, boats, etc.) washing should be done with a bucket and cloth/sponge. Rinsing is permitted with a hose equipped with a spring loaded nozzle.
- Agricultural users are permitted a maximum water use of 5500 cubic metres per hectare of allocation from April 15 - Sept 15.
- Commercial, Industrial, Institutional and Recreational users are encouraged to minimize water use as per restrictions determined by classification.
RDNO–GVW thanks its many customers for their co-operation while we were in Stage 2 and Stage 3 and reminds customers that by reducing consumption, increased restrictions may not be necessary. For more water wise tips and details on water restrictions, check our website at www.rdno.ca / Services / Greater Vernon Water. We encourage all our RDNO-GVW customers to continue to use water wisely such that we conserve our limited water resource.
Note these restrictions do not apply to areas irrigated by the City of Vernon Reclaimed Water System, including the DND Playing Fields and Marshall Fields.
