What is a Regional Growth Strategy?
The Regional Growth Strategy (RGS) is a long-term regional vision that promotes compact complete communities while protecting our rural areas and natural assets from sprawling development. The Regional Growth Strategy provides an integrated strategic policy framework for addressing growth management, economic development, transportation, other infrastructure, and environmental concerns. These policies play three key roles: (1) give direction for implementing the Regional Growth Strategy, (2) create a common strategic framework for planning at various levels within North Okanagan, and (3) provide the vision for all levels of government to strive towards.
The RGS is a partnership initiative between the Regional District of North Okanagan and Armstrong, Coldstream, Enderby, Lumby, Spallumcheen, Vernon and Electoral Areas B, C, D, E and F. We are working towards an agreement on the future by:
- Exploring common issues
- Developing a vision of a sustainable North Okanagan
- Creating Goals and strategies that respond to everyone's needs
- Planning for action once we have agreement
The Regional Growth Strategy policies will inform and be reflected in Official Community Plans through Regional Context Statements
