The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) is pleased to announce that while supplies last, RDNO-Gro, composted and screened yard and garden waste, is once again available to the public at the Greater Vernon Recycling and Disposal Facility (GVRDF) during GVRDF operating hours. Customers will be required to load the product for themselves, however for a limited time only, RDNO-Gro will be at no charge.
RDNO-Gro is not considered a fertilizer, but rather a soil amendment that will help condition tight and/or sandy soils to retain water, increase oxygen, and grow almost any kind of crop. The RDNO is in the process of constructing a permanent yard and garden waste composting facility at the GVRDF with funding from the Federal Gas Tax program.
“The permanent yard and garden waste composting facility at the GVRDF is in the design phase and we hope to see it open in 2009”, says Kohnert. “The GVRDF receives large quantities of yard and garden waste every year, and through composting this material, we create a high quality compost product.”
Unlike the well-known compost product Ogogrow, which is made with municipal wastewater biosolids, RDNO-Gro is strictly a yard and garden waste compost.
