Organics/Composting

Food and yard & garden waste and make up the largest component (over 1/3!) of all waste generated in the RDNO. Please keep these materials out of our landfills, where they cannot break down properly and produce methane, a greenhouse gas over 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

The RDNO provides a free drop off for Yard & Garden Waste at all Diversion & Disposal Facilities (DDFs) except at Silver Star Transfer Station.

The RDNO does not accept food scraps for composting at its facilities and does not provide curbside organics collection. Some municipalities within the RDNO are operating organics collection programs for their residents and more information can be found at the following links:

If your area does not have a municipal organics collection program, one option is a compost collection service. Find options by searching your local listings for "composting services". Another option is composting at home and you can find a variety of composting options, a composter rebate and tips to avoid pests on the Home Composting & Yard Care Webpage.
