Update: Mabel Lake Water - Water Quality Advisory RESCINDED

Type
Water Notice

Updated Notice - August 23, 2022 - 2:20pm

Mabel Lake Water (MLW), in conjunction with Interior Health, advises customers that the Water Quality Advisory (WQA) issued on July 14, 2022 is now RESCINDED.

Why this notice changed

The WQA is rescinded because the turbidity (cloudiness) levels that were over 1.0 NTU, which caused the WQA, have now decreased to acceptable levels (less than 1.0 NTU) and the WQA can be rescinded. Sampling results confirm the drinking water is safe.

Updated Notice - July 14, 2022 - 11:00am

Mabel Lake Water (MLW), in conjunction with Interior Health, advises customers that the Boil Water Notice (BWN) issued on June 26, 2022 is being DOWNGRADED to a Water Quality Advisory (WQA).

The WQA is in effect until the turbidity (cloudiness) levels have returned to acceptable levels and sampling results confirm that the drinking water is safe.

Why this notice changed

The turbidity levels that went over 5.0 NTU, which triggered the BWN, have now decreased; however they are still exceeding acceptable levels (1.0 NTU) and is why a WQA is necessary.

What should affected customers do?

Until the WQA is rescinded, young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems should exercise caution and all customers may choose to boil their water for at least one minute when using for the following purposes:

  • drinking
  • brushing teeth
  • washing fruits & vegetables to be eaten raw
  • making beverages or ice

Original Notice - June 26, 2022 - Mabel Lake Water - Precautionary Boil Water Notice

Mabel Lake Water (MLW), in conjunction with Interior Health, advises customers supplied by Mabel Lake Water they are on a Precautionary Boil Water Notice (BWN) as of June 26, 2022.

The BWN is in effect until the turbidity levels have returned to acceptable levels and sampling results confirm that the drinking water is safe.

What should affected customers do?

Until the BWN is rescinded, customers should exercise caution when using water for consumption purposes. All customers, especially young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems, may choose to boil their water for at least one minute when using for purposes, such as:

  • drinking
  • brushing teeth
  • washing fruits & vegetables to be eaten raw
  • preparing any food
  • mixing baby formula
  • making beverages or ice

Why is this notice in place?

Due to spring run-off, the turbidity levels have exceeded 5.0 NTU, and all customers who receive water from MLW are on a BWN. Melting snow has resulted in an increased presence of particles like clay and silt (turbidity) in the water that enters the water treatment process.
