Temporary Closure of the Okanagan Rail Trail

Public Notice

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) is advising trail users that the Okanagan Rail Trail between Kick Willie Road and Kekuli Bay Provincial Park is scheduled to be closed from May 19 to June 5, 2026.

The closure is required to allow important erosion-prevention works to take place at approximately 4.5 km and 5.6 km along the trail corridor. These works are being completed proactively to ensure the trail's long-term resilience and continuity.

Due to heavy truck traffic delivering machinery and materials to the work sites, the entire section of trail between Kick Willie Road and Kekuli Bay Provincial Park must be closed during active construction hours. A detour route will be available via the Kal/Crystal Waters Trail. Trail users can visit trails.tourismvernon.com for an interactive map of the trail.

Outside of active construction hours, the trail will be reopened up to the construction site limits; however, the work areas themselves will remain impassable due to the narrow trail width and adjacent steep slopes.

Please note that closure dates are subject to change pending provincial approvals. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this project and recognize that this closure will temporarily disrupt active transportation, recreation, and business activities in the area. We thank trail users and local businesses for their cooperation while these important improvements are completed.

Please forward any questions or concerns regarding this closure to the RDNO Parks Department at communityservices@rdno.ca
