Project Description
Construction of a new Armstrong/Spallumcheen Transfer Station will begin on Monday, June 23, 2025.
The Armstrong/Spallumcheen Landfill is nearing capacity, and construction of a new residential transfer station has been in the planning stages since 2022. The general contractor for the project, Nixon Earthworks Ltd., will demolish the current four (4) bay transfer station and construct a new eight (8) bay residential transfer station. A new entrance and exit will also be constructed, and the flow of traffic will be improved.
If residents plan to visit the Armstrong/Spallumcheen Transfer Station ASTS over the coming months, we encourage them to plan accordingly and follow all posted signage and staff direction. Residents will be informed of any service level adjustments as far in advance as possible. If the ASTS cannot meet particular waste management needs of individual customers due to existing restrictions, North Okanagan residents may use the Greater Vernon and Lumby Landfills.
Construction is expected to extend through the fall of 2025. RDNO Solid Waste Management staff and the contractor will work to provide the best possible service to facility customers.
The RDNO appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this transition. During construction, temporary operational changes, service level adjustments and limitations may be necessary.
