In conjunction with Interior Health, the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) advises some customers supplied by Greater Vernon Water that they are on a precautionary Boil Water Notice (BWN), due to a large water main break, until sampling results confirm the drinking water is safe. The area directly affected by the outage is those properties on 18 Street, from Pottery Road to 23 Avenue, properties on 21 Avenue and some properties in Pottery Road (see map).
A large water main break in the area around 18 Street and 20 Avenue has resulted in loss of water pressure for some customers in the area and increased turbidity (cloudiness) in a larger area. Properties nearby experiencing high turbidity may also wish to follow the BWN precautions. The break is being repaired, and flushing will be completed. The RDNO is issuing a precautionary BWN to the affected areas and sampling the water to ensure the continued safety of the water system.
What should affected customers do?
Properties in the area may experience reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water, and/or air. Please run a cold water tap until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred, but bathtubs may be used if outside taps are unavailable during the cooler months.
The level of service and treatment provided by the RDNO has been maintained; however, customers in the affected area should boil their water for at least one minute when preparing food, drinking, washing fruits & vegetables, making beverages or ice or when brushing their teeth.
When this notice is rescinded, it will be posted on the RDNO website, sent out to email subscribers and the locally placed signs will be updated. If you wish to subscribe, please visit www.rdno.ca/subscribe.
If you have any questions, please contact the RDNO Utilities Department at 250-550-3700.
