In conjunction with Interior Health, the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) advises some customers supplied by Greater Vernon Water that they will be on two precautionary Water Quality Advisories (WQA). The first WQA will begin May 14, 2025 at 8:00am and will remain in effect until May 16, 2025, at 5:00pm. The second WQA will begin on May 21, 2025 at 8:00am and will remain in effect until May 23, 2025 at 5:00pm.
BC Hydro work at the Rugg Road pump station is planned on May 14 and May 21. This will result in two 15-minute power outages each day while water operators connect and disconnect temporary power. During the outages water pressure may be reduced. As a result, the RDNO is issuing two WQAs to the affected areas while sampling and testing of the water main occurs to ensure the continued safety of the water system.
What should affected customers do?
When water service resumes, properties in the area may experience discolouration of the water, and/or air in the system. Please run a cold water tap until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred.
The level of treatment provided by the RDNO has been maintained; however, some customers may wish to boil their water for at least one minute when preparing food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or brushing their teeth.
