Grindrod Water Customers – Outdoor Water Restrictions Rescinded

Type
Water Notice

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) advises customers supplied by the Grindrod Water Utility (GRW) that Outdoor Water Restrictions are RESCINDED. Supply and demand conditions on the water system have returned to normal and the Grindrod Water Treatment Plant is able to keep up with the current water usage.  Although Outdoor Water Restrictions are being rescinded, the RDNO wants to remind customers that we live in a dry climate and water conservation should be practiced routinely to protect our streams as every drop counts.

Doing some yard clean up this weekend? Don’t forget your taps! Winterize taps to prevent leaks. Removing hoses and protecting exposed pipes from freezing temperatures will help to avoid cracks and leaks in the spring.

If you have any questions, please contact the RDNO Utilities Department at 250-550-3700.

July 13, 2023

The restriction issued on July 8, 2023 which prohibited all outdoor watering for customers on the Grindrod Water (GRW) system has been lifted because of their efforts to save water and reduce the demand for water during peak times. However, there are still some restrictions in place. The community is now under Stage 2 outdoor watering restrictions.

This means that residents are allowed to water their lawns and gardens outdoors using sprinklers, but only on two specific days each week, depending on your street address (schedule below). Staggering the days in which watering is allowed allows for a steady and sustainable draw on the system which is important to avoid adverse effects to the safety and availability of drinking water. And, as always, watering between 10 am and 7 pm is not allowed at any time.

It’s important to note that if the water usage becomes too high again, there may be a need to reintroduce a complete ban on all outdoor water use.

Please note:

  • NO YARD/GARDEN WATERING ON MONDAYS, THURSDAYS OR FRIDAYS
  • NO YARD/GARDEN WATERING BETWEEN 10AM AND 7PM ANY DAY

Residents may water any time by hand with a watering can or hose with a spring-loaded shut-off nozzle. Drip irrigation is also allowed any time as evaporation is minimal when the water is applied directly at the plant roots. For more information, visit www.rdno.ca/restrictions.
