The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) is excited to announce the winners of the People's Choice Awards in the Secondary Dwelling Contest. After two weeks of public voting, the one-storey winner is Familiar Faces, and the two-storey winner is Karinya-2.
In February, communities within the Regional District of North Okanagan invited architects, building designers, students, and people that are skilled in building design to submit their original designs for a chance at winning cash prizes. The competition garnered an overwhelmingly positive response with 69 design submissions from across Canada. An expert jury conducted a blind review, awarding eight prize-winners and then asked the public to vote for their favourites.
All eight winning plans, including Familiar Faces and Karinya-2, along with seven additional designs, are available for purchase by North Okanagan residents. The pre-approvals and low cost for plans will make the building permit process faster, easier and more affordable, saving both time and resources for homeowners and builders. Residents should verify specific zoning and utility servicing requirements with their municipalities.
