RDNO Provides Update on Acquisition of Silverhawk Sewer

Type
Media Release

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) is providing an update regarding ongoing negotiations with Silverhawk Utilities Inc. (Silverhawk) related to the potential acquisition of the sewer system currently serving Silver Star Village.

The wastewater collection and treatment services to properties at Silver Star Mountain Resort are owned and operated by Silverhawk, a private utility provider that has served the community for many years.

In 2023, the RDNO undertook an Alternative Approval Process (AAP) to seek elector approval to establish a regional sewer service and adopt a loan authorization bylaw to support the potential acquisition, operation, and maintenance of the utility. The proposal included authority to borrow up to $4.5 million and enter into an agreement to purchase the utility assets from Silverhawk. The AAP concluded on November 20, 2023, with elector approval received to proceed.

Since that time, the RDNO and Silverhawk have continued discussions toward a potential agreement to transfer the sewer utility assets to the RDNO. These negotiations are ongoing, and an agreement has not been finalized. At this time, the sewer utility remains under Silverhawk’s ownership and operation.

The RDNO remains committed to keeping the community informed as discussions progress, with no definite timelines set. Further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
