Greater Vernon Water (GVW) supplies water to approximately 56,000 people in the City of Vernon, District of Coldstream, Electoral Areas “B”, “C” and “D” in addition to providing bulk water to the Township of Spallumcheen for the Stepping Stones area.
While the Regional District manages the water sources, operation and maintenance are contracted to the City of Vernon and the District of Coldstream. Each jurisdiction handles billing for GVW customers located within their respective boundaries.
Updates to GVW Development Cost Charges Coming Soon
The RDNO is currently in the process of updating the Developer Cost Charges (DCC) Bylaw for the Greater Vernon Water service. The current DCC rates are 20 years old, and due to increased standards and inflation, rates will increase. The updated bylaw was given first reading at the Board of Directors meeting on September 11, 2024, after which, public and stakeholder consultation was held on November 26, 2024. Based on input from the Greater Vernon Advisory Committee and the public and stakeholders, the bylaw was amended and given second and third readings at the March 19, 2025 Board of Directors meeting. The bylaw has been forwarded to the Inspector of Municipalities for approval before it is adopted.
